“Patience Dripping Down The Drain…”
Beaten up
but walking
missing lungs
but screaming
at the reflection in the mirror
in the middle of the night.
Face unfamiliar
and the eyes that
are looking side to side
searching for that exit sign.
Patience dripping down the drain,
capacity is overflowing
with regret
before the heart, the brain
will wager, make a bet
expecting failure
reset and cigarette.
The chains are loosening somehow,
must be that constant friction, grind,
just fun, some gamble
for the heart and mind
that will liberate my smile
from these unbroken,
unseen binds.
