Poetry: Chameleon

“but they also know

that I’m a giant chameleon…”

Have you met a man
who finds a joy
in the road trip
without ever reaching
the destination?

Have you spoken softly
at the time
when surrounding energy
required you to scream?

Did you see somebody
choose the opposite
of standard practices
of love and slander?

Those are people,
those are unlocked souls
which I could not decipher.

They know I’m here to read them.

They know I’m there to seek them,
but they also know
that I’m a giant chameleon
defaulting to the murky gray
always trying to explain,
please, just stop this pain.
